Overview
For use in medical applications Spectra® MG BIO is an ultra-high strength, ultra-lightweight polyethylene fiber manufactured through a patented gel spinning process – the first of its kind. Spectra MG BIO is one of the world’s strongest and lightest fibers; it is 15 times stronger than steel, yet light enough to float. On a volume basis, it is 3 times stronger than polyester. It exhibits high resistance to chemicals, water, and ultraviolet light, and possesses superior abrasion and internal fiber-friction characteristics. Compared with conventional polyethylene fiber, Spectra MG BIO has a very high molecular weight and degree of orientation, as well as crystallinity.
