Solstice® Refrigerants, Blowing Agents and Propellants
Honeywell has already invested a billion dollars in research, development, and new capacity for the technology, having anticipated the need for lower-GWP solutions to combat climate change more than a decade ago.
Honeywell's breakthrough Solstice® hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technology, which helps customers lower their carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency without sacrificing end-product performance, is used in various applications, including refrigerants for supermarkets, air conditioning for cars and trucks, blowing agents for insulation, propellants for personal and household care and solvents for cleaning solutions. Honeywell has already invested a billion dollars in research, development, and new capacity for the technology, having anticipated the need for lower-GWP solutions to combat climate change more than a decade ago.
Customers utilizing Solstice technology have avoided the potential release of the equivalent of more than 295 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, equal to eliminating the potential emissions from more than 62 million cars for one year.
Solstice Product Line
Solstice® N71 (R-471A) is Honeywell’s newest non-ozone depleting, non-flammable, HFO based refrigerant, which helps our customers lower their carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency without sacrificing end-product performance. It’s the only < 150 GWP, non-flammable HFO refrigerant blend for new equipment in medium temperature applications.
Solstice® N40 (R-448A) is a nonflammable, reduced-GWP HFO blend for new supermarkets or R-404A retrofits, especially low- and medium-temp refrigeration. More than 60,000 supermarkets globally, trust Solstice® N40 (R448A) to help them comply with current and proposed regulations, with the aim of reducing the use of high-GWP HFCs.
Solstice Propellant (HFO-1234ze), a non-flammable, low GWP solution for aerosol applications, including personal care products, pressure dusters, lubricants and cleaners, and disinfectants.
Solstice Air (HFO-1234ze(E), cGMP) is a non-flammable, ultra-low GWP aerosol propellant for Metered Dose Inhalers and one of the recent breakthroughs of the Solstice portfolio. Honeywell teamed with AstraZeneca to develop next-generation respiratory inhalers. Next-generation inhalers will use Honeywell's Solstice® Air to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of propellant by 99.9 percent vs current inhaler propellant.
Solstice ze, an energy efficient, ultra-low GWP refrigerant, has been adopted by heat pump manufacturers to deliver low-carbon and energy cost savings in groundbreaking projects throughout Europe.
Solstice yf, an ultra-low GWP refrigerant for automobile air conditioning systems that is currently used in more than 100 million vehicles globally and is expected to grow to 125 million vehicles over the next few years.
Solstice Liquid Blowing Agent (LBA), an ultra-low GWP solution used in a variety of rigid foam insulation applications, including residential and commercial refrigeration equipment, spray foam, pour-in-place insulation, and insulated metal panels.
Solstice Gas Blowing Agent (GBA), is an ultra-low GWP solution used in a variety of foam insulation applications.
